One of a series of US Military tartans woven exclusively
by the Strathmore Woollen Co.
This tartan was originally designed by Arthur Mackie in
the mid-1980s to recognise the close co-operation for 25
years between the US military establishment at Thurso,
Caithness, and the local community. The resulting design
not only conveyed the elements of the combined US Forces
serving in Scotland during and immediately after the 2nd
World War, but established an unusual pattern in the
Scottish tartan archive. It should be noted that this
tartan has no formal US Military recognition, but
through common usage has become a widely accepted as a
representative tartan design.
