| This sporran is a reproduction of the
sporran used by the 79th Cameron Highlanders of the
United States. The Secretary of War was Simon Cameron,
he asked his brother to assemble a regiment in the New
York area of expatriated Scots. The year was 1861 .
There were hundreds of ex Scottish Military and
specifically Cameron Highlander Veterans that had
immigrated from Scotland. They were able to
recruit nearly the entire Regiment of Scots. They joined
the war effort against the Confederate States. Many went
into the Civil War wearing their kilts. |
